The two MRI scanners at MCAI are the newest types of MRI scanners available for clinical imaging. MCAI is the FIRSToutpatient imaging center in the western suburbs to install not only a 3.0T MRI scanner but also the shortest 3.0T MRI scanner. The 1.5T MRI scanner also yields high resolution imaging, but is even shorter yet, making the traditional Open MRI units (0.3-0.7 Tesla) close to obsolescence. Patients are scanned in comfort because of the short bore designs of these magnets. Greater precision and detail yields increased accuracy for interpretation and diagnosis. State-of-the-art surface coils provide the greatest clarity for imaging small parts such as wrist ligaments. Because they are high field magnets, the exam time is much shorter than on an open machine. MCAI is staffed with a full compliment of registered nurses and credentialed technologists
The staff is also experienced with pediatric MRIs. The exam
room is large and comfortable with high ceilings and windows for
decreased anxiety. Patients are encouraged to bring a music CD to
enjoy during their exam.
